New Business:

1.    Treasurer’s update.   $5250.10 currently in account.  Anticipated amount at end of season approximately $6800 (less whatever is needed to pay player fees for 1st half session winner)

2.    Set banquet date so we can get tickets out earlier (by midpoint of second half).  Banquet will be June 2, 2018 at the Cercle National.   We will again have a 3 rail challenge but will use both tables, $400 in gift cards will be given out, other ideas will be discussed and presented to the board.

3.    Set pay-outs for league – We will add approximately $1000 from the bank account to the total 2017-2018 fees collected.  The team winning the session (before playoffs begin) will get a maximum of $200.  It will be used to pay player’s fee for the second half for the first half session winners.  It will be returned to the players by the team captain for the second half session winners.  League champion will receive $1600, 2nd will receive $800, we will pay for each 6-pocket run.  Each team will vote for their own MVP and a rookie of the year will again be awarded.  All awards will be given out at the banquet, with the exception of the 1st half session winner award.

4.    The question was raised on whether a team can give up the break in a single game – The current rule states

15.  AWARDING THE BREAK

a.    During regular season play the visiting team will break in the first, third and fifth match; the home team will break in matches two and four.  See Rule 12 for posting partners.

b.    In Playoff matches, one player in the first match from each team will lag for break.  The winning team will have the option of breaking in the first, third and fifth game or swapping the breaks.   The team breaking first will post first in matches during playoffs. (revised August 2017)

c.    In tournament games, players will lag for award of the break.  The player winning the lag (closest to the top rail) shall be awarded the break.

d.    In tournament play the player who has won the lag, or his partner, shall have the OPTION of breaking or allowing his opponent(s) to do so.

e.    In order to promote fair play, a player competing in the lag should attempt to hit his ball at the same moment his opponent does so.  It must be hit before the ball hits the head rail.

f.      One practice lag shall be allowed before the deciding lag.

12.  PARTNERS

a.       In determining the partners for each game, the visiting team will post the partners first in the first match..  In match two the home team will post first.  This will alternate for the remaining games.  A blind post will no longer be used.

b.        If the names chosen to play cannot play as a result of an emergency before the start of the match then both captains need to discuss this and both teams will have the opportunity to change their players.

After considerable discussion it was decided that the visiting team can choose to swap breaks but not posting first.  A rule change to allow for giving up the break in a single game was tabled until a future date.

New rule will now state.

15.  AWARDING THE BREAK

a.    During regular season play the visiting team will have the option of giving the home team the break  in the first, third and fifth match; and will assume the break in matches two and four.  Rule 12 for posting partners will not change – visitors will still post first in matches one, three and five. (revised 11/1/17)

b.In Playoff matches, one player in the first match from each team will lag for break.
