QCPL Friday League Meeting

November 20, 2024

Attending: Keith Kaz, Bob Tanner, Jim Rose, Ray Paquin, Mike Cormier, Eric Milanese, Bob Gagne, Lenny Pappas Jr., Sue Novak, Tom LeBlanc, Ron Michaud, Eric Milanese

1.       Team Fee – In looking at the finances if was felt that the clubs should pay $100 per team.  The food costs for the banquet have increased and it has been difficult to cover the cost with clubs paying less for multiple teams, therefore the president and treasurer felt that the clubs should pay equally for each team.  This fee covers most of the cost for the food.  Any additional comes from a portion of the players fee and the guests at the banquet.

2.       Player Fee - Players will again pay $20 per half for the Friday league.  This is still significantly less that would be paid when you play on the APA 8- and 9-ball leagues.  A portion of this fee goes toward the banquet, the table games and prizes at the end of the year.

3.       End of Year Pay Out – During one of our meetings last year it was discussed and decided to only pay the League winners and we will again be doing this at the end of the year.  It was pointed out that the paying of the first and second place teams started when we did not have a banquet.  Since we are again doing banquets it was felt only the League winner would receive a bonus

4.       With so few teams it was felt that we could not afford to have players not pay for the next half year if their team finished first in any half prior to the playoffs.  These player fees go toward banquet and prizes, so eliminating $160-200 from the treasury decreases what we can give back.

5.       Set tournament dates.  Singles Warm up at Cercle Jan 7th, Singles at Cercle Jan 18-Feb 8, Doubles at Davignon Mar 1-23, Best of the Rest April 5th, Tournament of Champions Apr 12th.  It is unclear whether there will also be a doubles warm-up.  We’ve not had one in the past but it was questioned at the meeting tonight.

6.       Handicaps – the new half points seems to be working out.  The way the handicap is figured is 75% of the total difference - not each game.  The easiest way to explain it would be to total the handicap points for each team and then take 75% of the difference in total.  The team with the lowest handicap total is the one that gets the 75% difference.

EXAMPLE:  “Team A” has a total handicap of 36, “Team B” has a handicap total of 28.  The difference is 8.   Handicap is 75% of 8 for a total of 6 points added to “Team B”.  IF the 75% comes out to a 0.5+ the handicap goes up (6.5=7); if less than 0.5 then goes down (2.25 = 2).

I hope this helps you, but the program automatically calculates the difference.

7.        Collect the club fee and player fees as soon as possible.  It can be left with the bartender at the Cercle.  Just put in an envelope for Tom LeBlanc, include the team name, whether it is club fee or player fees and the amount enclosed.  You can put it all in one envelope, just be sure it is labeled accordingly.  Since we did not relay this at the first meeting, we expect the Captain to handle this ASAP.

8.       Next Meeting will be on Thursday, Jan 30, 2025 at the Davignon at 6:30pm
