The meeting began at 7:06 pm.  The following items were discussed

I.      Open issues

a)      Play-off eligibility – The suggestion made from prior minutes was that a player must play at least 3 times in the half to play in that half’s playoffs.  It does not seem fair to bring back someone who played in the first half but not the second and let them play in the second half playoffs.  Agreed that you must play in the half to play in that half’s playoffs.  In order to verify that a player has played at least three times in the half, the team captain must be able to produce the score sheets if questioned.  If they are unable to produce the score sheets, the player will not be eligible to play.

If there is a forfeit and a player would have played the score sheet is to have the names filled in as the scheduled players.  The opposing team captain will initial the sheet next to the player’s name.  This will be used to indicate that the player was here to play but his match was a forfeit.  This will count as having played in half.   Agreed

The rule will now read

Rule 59.  PLAYOFFS

A roster player must have played at least three weeks in a half of regular league play in order to play in the play-offs for that half. In order to verify that a player has played at least three times in the half, the team captain must be able to produce the score sheets if questioned.  If they are unable to produce the score sheets, the player will not be eligible to play.  (Amended 8/19/2015).

In order to ensure this, the suggestion was made that all teams hand in the score sheets to Sue (Davis) Novak to track whom plays at least 3 weeks – This is on hold at this time.

b)      Finals eligibility – The suggestion was that a player must be an active member of the team to play in the finals. If you only play the first half you should not be able to play in the finals. Keep in mind that the ranking is done based on the teams play during the half.  If you add a player for the finals, that may skew the handicap.

After much discussion it was agreed that if a team wins a half, the team’s handicap in which they won will be the handicap used in the finals and all roster players, who that had at least 3 matches in the first or second half (see rule 59),  are eligible for the finals. Agreed.

(CLARIFICATION – We will use the handicap at the time of the win or the lower one if you drop)

II.      New business

a)      Get phone and email for all captains and co-captains - please get emails and phone numbers to Sue (Davis) Novak at sukie93@yahoo.com or text to (603) 315-3921.

b)      Vote to continue with the handicap system – Do we keep the handicap system or consider using an alternative – Vote was a split.  We will keep the handicap system this year and look at more options for next year.

Idea to rank players - this would require captains turn in sheets to gather stats.  Ranking individual players is tough to do when using a doubles format for league play.  It would be much easier to rank players if we played in a singles league.  Suggestion that maybe we would also consider having a singles league in order to rank players.

c)      Update on accounting from last year. (Total payouts and all funds remaining).  We paid $1200 for the league champions and $800 for the second place team.  Players who ran six pockets were also paid $25.  We have approximately $2300 in the fund at the end of the 2014-15 season. The money that players paid last year for the banquet had also been returned to the captains.

d)     Funding of the league – Ron put together an idea for funding for the Banquet, payouts, team dues and having player dues, See example spread sheet.  These were just an idea and will need to be voted on next meeting on 9/8/15.  Basically the suggestion was to keep the club dues at $200 and charge players $20 for the year ($10 per half).  If a player comes into the league in the second half they still pay $20.

e)      Nominations and selection for activates director – Kim Janelle and Eric Bourgeois would head the activities committee which would be responsible for the banquet.  They will pick a committee to assist with this project.

f)       Decide on the location for the singles and doubles – Davignon due for singles – has not had one since 2007, Deerhead also due a tournament even though their last tournament was 2013, of the eligible teams they have not had hosted in the longest time.

g)      Any rule changes –

Rule 20.   SPOTTING THE ONE (l) BALL -The one ball shall be spotted any way you want to spot the ball. (revised 8/22/13).

The rule itself stands.  In order to prevent the disagreements between the spotter and the player asking for the one-ball to be re-spotted, the league will purchase a number of numberless one-balls.  These “number-less one-balls” will be given to every club for Friday league and tournament play.

Rule 30.   CORNER-HUNG CUE BALL

If the cue ball is positioned in such a manner that no clear shot is available at any ball without hitting the corners or "points" of the pocket with the cue ball (corner hung), such a shot can be played safe and it is not necessary that any ball be hit.

After much discussion the rule 30 stands and is unchanged.

h)      Hall of fame nominations – Paul Cere will be chairman of committee.  Sue put together a list of a number of players who qualify by just looking at tournament wins.  We also added a couple of additional names based on number of years in the league.  See Paul Cere if you can think of any additional players who would qualify.  Who do we think we should put in? – to be voted on at 9/8/15 meeting.

i)        Rosters, which clubs are having teams and how many.  Please contact Ron Michaud or Sue (Davis) Novak if you are or are not having a team.  I will need this ASAP to set up schedule.  Bring rosters to meeting or email/text them to Sue (Davis) Novak as soon as possible.

III.      Adjournment  8:20 PM

Respectfully,

Sue Novak
